Rethinkography: The Forgotten Self – A Rethinking of Identity and Perception in Self-Management

What it’s about

In the realm of self-management, one of the most neglected yet critical aspects is the cultivation and protection of one’s sense of self. The image provided, a mannequin’s face with its detached gaze, serves as a haunting metaphor for the danger of becoming emotionally disconnected, not just from others but from ourselves. It speaks to the phenomenon where individuals, especially in the professional sphere, develop a perfected external persona, a mask, while their inner world — their true identity, emotional needs, and sense of self — fades into an undefined backdrop. This separation between the external presentation and internal reality can be detrimental, both to one’s personal fulfillment and professional success.

Mindful Listening: The Key to Conscious Leadership in a Digitalised World

What it’s all about

In an increasingly complex and digitalised working environment, where leaders are constantly bombarded with a deluge of information, the art of listening has become a crucial yet often overlooked skill. Mindful Listening, the practice of listening with full attention, bridges philosophy, psychology, and leadership expertise, holding the potential to fundamentally transform how we communicate and work together. For the modern leader, this practice offers the opportunity not only to build stronger relationships but also to enhance team efficiency and innovation.

Rethinkography: The Philosophy of Clearing the Clutter

What it’s all about

Standing at the crossroads between self-management and the metaphors of urban life, this image – a barren sidewalk, strewn with empty boxes and overlooked utility cabinets covered in graffiti – serves as a fitting canvas for a Rethinking lesson that penetrates the core of our modern existence. The casual word “Honey” scrawled across the wall, seemingly unrelated to the chaos beneath it, pulls our attention. It is a signifier, simultaneously detached and intimate, atop a scene of abandonment, signifying the juxtaposition that often inhabits our minds and lives. The walls we construct around our routines, our unspoken fears, and our desires – much like this corner of the city – are often left to accumulate unnoticed clutter.

Positive Organizational Scholarship: Rethinking for Leaders

Rethinking: A Philosophical, Psychological and Strategic Perspective for Leaders

The Core Idea

The dynamics of the business landscape demand more than mere adaptability. They require leaders to fundamentally reshape their thinking, adopting a new way of reflecting and making decisions that transcends traditional management. In this context, “Rethinking” means breaking free from outdated patterns and thought habits to develop innovative approaches that can withstand the increasing complexity and digitalisation of the world. However, Rethinking is much more than just an intellectual exercise. It is deeply rooted in the disciplines of philosophy and psychology, offering leaders essential tools to elevate both their personal development and the leadership of their teams to new heights.

Rethinkography: Unveiling the Shrouded Self

What it’s all about

The image of a shrouded figure, hidden beneath a cloth, powerfully symbolizes a concept that is crucial in the domain of self-management: the hidden or suppressed aspects of ourselves. Just as the sculpture in the image is obscured by the veil, so too do many people carry hidden parts of their identities, emotions, or potential—unseen and unexplored. In life and work, this metaphor is striking. What lies hidden beneath the surface often determines the course of our actions, decisions, and, ultimately, our fulfillment.

Rethinkography: The Bicycle Bell as a Metaphor for Conscious Self-Management and Clear Communication

What it’s all about

In the realm of self-management, we often find ourselves like cyclists on a long journey, facing challenges, obstacles, and distractions. The bicycle bell, seen in the image, may seem like a simple detail, but it carries profound meaning that offers us a new perspective on self-leadership and decision-making processes. It symbolises a straightforward yet powerful ability: the art of drawing attention to oneself at the right moment and sending clear signals. Just as a cyclist uses the bell to communicate their intentions amidst busy city traffic, so must we be mindful of highlighting our needs, boundaries, and goals to avoid being overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of life.

Rethinkography: The Invisible Fence – Self-Limitation through Mental Barriers in Self-Management and Work

Introduction: The Image of Barriers

The image shows several horizontal barricades, representing a form of boundary, symbolising obstacles in life. These barriers can be seen as a metaphor for the mental blocks we often impose on ourselves. They separate us from our goals and hinder progress. Frequently, these barriers are invisible and subtle but just as strong as physical fences. In self-management, whether in our professional or personal lives, they become unseen obstacles that restrict our growth and development. The good news is: they are not insurmountable.

Rethinkography: Rethinking Self-Management – The Metaphor of Black Roses in a Red Vase

What it’s all about

Rethinkography uses powerful photographic metaphors to visualise new ways of thinking. Each image symbolises a moment of rethinking that makes it possible to question established ways of thinking and acting and to develop new, future-oriented solutions. In life and work, much like a bouquet of black roses displayed in a striking red vase, we often encounter contradictions, paradoxes, and situations that challenge conventional expectations. Black roses, typically associated with mystery, depth, and the unknown, represent aspects of life that may seem dark or challenging at first glance. The red vase, on the other hand, signifies energy, passion, and the container of our life force – our choices, actions, and mindset.
