Unused opportunities of practice management: KPI analysis shows expandable planning activities among general practitioners and specialists

What it’s all about

Practice management comparisons show that in German medical practices – across all speciality groups – on average only 53% of the regulations and instruments necessary for smoothly functioning practice management are used. The resulting patient satisfaction meets only 61% of the requirements and wishes. A deficient area of action in practice management with unused potential is planning. If it is activated, productivity, quality of work, patient loyalty and acquisition as well as the success of the practice will improve in the long term.

Medical assistants and initiative: the motivation exists

What it is about

If one compares the statements of practice owners and medical assistants in company comparison studies, one notices a high discrepancy with regard to the self-initiative and independent completion of tasks. Among the weaknesses of the work, the doctors cite that the assistants constantly need detailed instructions on what to do. The assistants, on the other hand, complain that they are constantly being told what to do and that there is no room for initiative and self-direction.

Pilot project on personal development of medical professionals: Urgently needed

What it is all about

In its online edition of 13.04.2022, the Ärzte Zeitung reported on the pilot project “LongProf”, which aims to support and promote the personal development of doctors. Topics include dealing with one’s own mistakes or one’s own positioning between patient care and economic aspects. The goal is to integrate this aspect into medical training after an evaluation. Among other things, this would also solve a central problem of outpatient practice management.
