The booster for practice management: Digital anamnesis

Data, facts and instruments on the German health system

What it’s all about

The variety of possibilities offered by digitisation of practice work only becomes apparent to GPs and specialists when they look beyond the “end of their nose” of the TI. For example, a digital medical history can significantly improve efficiency and productivity in medical practices.

The possibilities of using a digital case history

  • Time saving: By recording patient data before the actual visit to the doctor at home, valuable time is saved in the practice. Moreover, the doctor can check the information asynchronously in advance and prepare for the consultation in a concentrated and targeted manner.
  • Data quality: Digital medical histories allow patients to enter their information directly into a structured format. This reduces the risk of misunderstandings or incorrect entries that can occur, for example, with handwritten records. The improved data quality leads to more accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions.
  • Automation: A digital medical history is able to perform automated evaluations, such as assessing symptoms or identifying potential risk factors. This enables the doctor to access and prioritise important information more quickly.
  • Pre-collection data: With a digital medical history, patients can provide previous examination results or laboratory tests. This information is then available before the patient even appears. This allows the doctor to prepare better and avoids unnecessary repetition of tests.
  • Communication: A digital medical history improves communication between patient and doctor. If the patient enters their symptoms and concerns in advance, it becomes possible for the doctor to better focus on the conversation and ask specific questions. This makes communication more efficient and goal-oriented.
  • Resources: A digital case history optimises the use of resources in the doctor’s office. The staff time spent on recording patient data is reduced. This frees up capacity for other tasks, which leads directly to increased productivity.

The prerequisite

However, the basic prerequisite for any improvement in efficiency and productivity is that this Anamese technology is integrated into a smoothly functioning practice management. Otherwise, the benefits cannot take effect at all; on the contrary, problems may even arise in the course of the practice. All information on this can be found in the free publication “Benchmarking practice management for general practitioners and specialists – method, application and benefits”.
