What it’s all about
Almost half of the problems in the organisation of a medical practice can be traced back to deficits in staff management. Three examples.
Three examples
The following examples are results of the practice management benchmarking which can be identified again and again in everyday life:
- Lack of communication: If the communication between the medical assistants and the practice management is insufficient, problems automatically arise in the organisation. The staff members do not receive the necessary information to complete their tasks effectively, which leads to confusion and thus to inefficient work. A variation of poor communication is that important changes or instructions are not communicated in a timely manner, resulting in delays and errors.
- Lack of clear role definitions: If practice owners fail to establish clear role definitions in the form of job descriptions and activity profiles, this inevitably leads to confusion about competencies and responsibilities, which subsequently leads to conflicts. Without clear structures and distribution of tasks, there is duplication of work and important things are overlooked. This leads to bottlenecks, inefficient use of resources and a general lack of orientation of the entire practice team.
- Lack of motivation and teamwork: Deficient staff management inevitably expresses itself in a lack of motivation and in collaboration that does not have the character of teamwork. If female staff members are not sufficiently motivated or do not experience a sense of collaboration and support in their daily work, the results are insufficient productivity, increased absenteeism and a general dissatisfaction with the workplace. This situation has a lasting negative impact on the organisation of the practice, as no one is really interested in providing the required services efficiently and maintaining a positive working atmosphere.
Causal research and error elimination simply implemented
GPs and specialists who would like to examine not only their staff management but also the entire practice management simply and quickly for deficits and previously unused opportunities for improvement can use the publication: “Benchmarking practice management for GPs and specialists – method, application and benefits”. It describes how a medical practice can be developed into smooth functionality through practice management benchmarking. The brochure can be requested by e-mail.
