Mastering The Medical Mindshift in Healthcare Marketing and Sales: Successful with Lab Values instead of 08/15 Service

Data, facts and instruments on the German health system

What it’s all about

The requirements of the medical target groups relevant to the offerings of pharmaceutical and medical technology companies have changed significantly. Increasingly, the players also want support in practice management. The “laboratory values approach” helps healthcare providers in this regard.

Laboratory values in medicine and practice management

Laboratory values are an essential basis for medical patient care. But professional practice management is also inconceivable without their business counterpart, the key performance indicators (KPI). Laboratory values, with their reference ranges and decision limits, are used by physicians across specialties for diagnostics and the classification of diseases into degrees of severity. In addition, they are used for progress and therapy controls, but also for prevention and for determining or assessing risk factors.

Practice performance is measurable

The laboratory values for practice management are the key performance indicators (KPI). These are key performance indicators that are created by comparing (benchmarking) the practice management data of a general practitioner or specialist practice with objective and representative measured variables. For this purpose, structured documentation forms (doctors, medical assistants and patients) are used to describe the management of the practice and make it measurable in the subsequent evaluation by means of scaling. In this way, it is possible not only to record the type and intensity of the regulations used for practice management, but also their effects and impact relationships (return on management, ROM). This information is not only urgently needed to eliminate acute work problems, but is also relevant for strategic practice development.

High benefit

The KPIs, summarized in a practice management dashboard, the “lab report” and supplemented by a practice expertise, the “findings report”, make it possible to determine the current state of practice management and identify previously untapped opportunities, on average forty opportunities for improvement, without much effort.

The practice management benchmarking system is not only suitable for self-optimization by practice teams, but also as a service instrument for marketing and sales, in order to

  • to meet the changing support requirements of the target groups of physicians and to underline
  • to underline their own future-oriented competence.
